The Afrocentric / Reggae dancehall Singer, WD has this funny tale concerning the story behind his new hit ‘Welcome To LAGOS’.
“What really inspired this song was my first experience when I came to Lagos newly. After I left Benin City to Ghana then returned back to Nigeria, I decided to base Lagos so I can climb further in the music industry.
One faithful day, I boarded a bus heading straight to Alaba International Market to see how I can take my music to the next level by distributing via Alaba Marketing platform.
This is because when I was still in Benin City, I use to hear a lot of Street mix tapes from Alaba Market.
So I admired thier business strategy on a high profile.
To cut the long story short, on getting there, I first met some groups of guys claiming to be the best marketers in Alaba.
At first I keyed into their hyping and praise they gave to themselves.
But later on they started turning me around from one shop to another trying to brainwash me, not knowing I was observing all their moves until I finally told them the money for the music production was at home, that I needed to get the money so they can start the job with immediate effect.
They where all happy; I saw the excitement from their silence and attitude. So I told them am I’m new in Lagos and I don’t know places yet.
And I didn’t know getting to Alaba Market from Ogba is so expensive.
And I went on telling them I entered a bus for N1500 just to get there.
So I told them that now I’m stranded and said if I had known, I would have brought along the whole money with me and now I have only N500 naira with me.
They told me that I will pay N150,000 for the promotion and I agreed.
I even went as far as telling them I can give N200k for the job.
Along the line, one of them danced to my tune and agreed to give me transport fare because they saw in me that I was truly ready to do business with them.
But what they didn’t notice was that as soon as I discovered that they were fake and trying to act smart on me, I also tried to brainwash them too until they ended up giving me 1k for transport without noticing that I brainwashed them too.
That’s how I overcame them and escaped from those fake marketers .
I guess they must have learnt their lessons by now when they finally discovered that I didn’t comeback again.
