Ayodeji Richard Makun, fondly known by his stage name A.Y, is a Nigerian actor, comedian, radio and TV presenter, writer, producer and director. He was born on 19 August 1971. He hails from Ifon, Ose local government in Ondo State.
He is the host of the popular A.Y live shows and A.Y comedy skits. His first movie, ‘30 Days in Atlanta’ was produced by him and directed by Robert O. Peters. He was made a U.N Peace Ambassador in 2009 after winning six awards in 2008. He is the CEO of Corporate World Entertainment Nigeria.
Ayo Makun came into spotlight after being popular comedian, Alibaba Akporobome’s personal assistant and event manager. A.Y also wrote going ‘A.Y wire’ as a guest columnist in The Sun (Nigeria) and Gbenga Adeyinka’s ‘Laugh Mattaz’.
He has a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Art from Delta State University, Abraka. While in school, A.Y was very active and had many nominations and awards including Best Showbiz Promoter (2001) and Most Celebrated Theatre Arts Student (2003).
He has carved a niche for himself in Nollywood with his high grossing movies which include 30 Days in Atlanta, 10 Days in Sun City and a Trip to Jamaica.
Ayo Makun married Mabel, CEO of Maidas Interior in 2008 and they are blessed with a beautiful daughter, Michelle Makun.
AY has six siblings, two boys and four girls. One of his brothers, Yomi Makun known as Yomi Casual is one of the A-list fashion designer in Nigeria and his other brother, Lanre Makun is an events planner.
Yomi Casual stands out as one of Nigeria’s best male fashion designers. In other words, among the men who are into fashion designing in Nigeria, you cannot talk about the best in the business without mentioning Yomi Casual.
Yomi is also one of the reasons why AY always looks good. He is the one that makes most of the outfits that AY rocks with so much swag!
