Two Bodies Recovered By Emergency Responders At Building Collapse In Lagos
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has activated its Emergency Response Plan after receiving a distress call of an ongoing seven storey building that collapsed at Oba Idiwu Oniru Street beside Avi Maria, Victoria Island, Lagos today, 4th September, 2022.
Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, an uncompleted 7 storey building undergoing construction was found to have collapsed. Six people were trapped under the rubbles.
Two male dead bodies have been recovered from under the rubble of the collapsed building at Oba Idowu Oniru street beside Avi Maria hospital, Lagos.
Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, Zonal Coordinator South West, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), said this to newsmen on Sunday in Lagos, Vondigest reports.
The Lagos Territorial Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident on Sunday.
He said, “Seven-storey building collapsed at Sand field bus stop, Lekki. Six people are said to be trapped and responders on the ground.”
In his reaction to the incident, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said that upon arrival, it was discovered that the seven-story building was under construction when it caved in.
He said, “No injury sustained. However, about six people are reported to be trapped under the rubble of the collapsed structure.
“The agency’s heavy-duty equipment excavator will be required for the rescue of the trapped victims. We have activated the Lagos State Response plan. The operation is ongoing. More updates to follow.”
According to Farinloye, the seven-storey building under construction collapsed at Oba Idowu Oniru Street, Lekki.
He said operations were ongoing to rescue the remaining trapped persons under the rubbles.
Emergency responders at the scene included the Nigerian Police Force, NEMA, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), State Fire Service and the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA).
Search and rescue are still ongoing.
