Lionel Messi has reached a milestone of earnings hitting the $1billion point mark – The Barcelona star now joins the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Rodger Federer, Tiger Woods and Cristiano Ronaldo in the billionaire club.
Messi emerged the highest-paid footballer with $126million earnings in salary and endorsements.
The 33-year-old old was way ahead of rival Cristiano Ronaldo gulping a massive $126million against the Portuguese’s $117m. The Barcelona star is now the second footballer to reach the $1bn point mark along with Ronaldo, Rodger Federer, Tiger Woods and Floyd Mayweather.
Messi earned $92m as salary and the other $34m of his take-home was made from several endorsements.
Despite making a U-turn on his career with Barcelona, the Argentine superstar still leads the top earning footballers with former teammate Neymar coming third pocketing $96m.
Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe rose to fourth on the pile taking his total sum to $42m at the age of 21.

The Juventus striker first became the first football player to hit the $1billion mark and achievement envisaged a few weeks back. According to Forbes, the 35-year-old earned a staggering $105m from June 1, 2019, to June 1, 2020 to achieve the feat.
However, Ronaldo’s earning is second to tennis legend and multiple Grand Slam winner, Roger Federer.
