Igbo presidency will stop Biafra agitation – Ohanaeze Ndigbo
Vondigest reports that Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, on Friday warned that separatist agitation by pro-Biafra groups will increase if the region is denied presidency in 2023.
Chief Alex Ogbonna, Ohanaeze National Publicity Secretary asked top aspirants from other zones in Nigeria like the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu; and Vice-President Prof Yemi Osinbajo, to reconsider their targets, and support Igbo presidency in 2023.
“What Ohanaeze is saying is that if this Presidency does not come to the South-East, definitely, there would be more restiveness and separatist agitations in the South-East; it would increase insecurity and it is not in the interest of anybody who loves the interest of this country.
“It is the stand of Ohanaeze that Osinbajo and Tinubu should add voice to the Presidency coming to the South-East and not begin to pursue personal interest,” Ogbonnia said in an interview with Punch.
This online platform recalls that in the last few months, several politicians in the South East have declared their interest to contest for the presidential ticket in their respective political parties.
Notably among them are; former governor Peter Obi of Anambra State, Rochas Okorocha, a former governor of Imo; Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia; Kingsley Moghalu; Anyim Pius Anyim, Sam Ohuabunwa among others.
