Follow These Steps To Prevent Unknown Users From Adding You To WhatsApp Groups
WhatsApp, no doubt is the top messaging/social networking app. On the App, you’ll get fast, simple, secure messaging and calling all for free.
WhatsApp is used by over a billion users every month to send text messages, photos/videos, etc. Unfortunately, hackers are attracted to the App taking advantage of uniformed users who do not know how to personalize their experience on the app by making some security settings.
If you’re able to control who has access to add you to groups, you’ll be free from finding yourself in unnecessary random groups and of course hackers will not impersonate you to drop multiple spam messages in groups to exploit others in your personality.
Just a few settings in your WhatsApp App allow you to control who add you to groups. That way, you’re fully and truly in charge!
To avoid getting added to groups by random people, follow the steps below:
- Open WhatsApp, click on the three dots on the top right corner of the screen.
- Click on the Settings option and then tap Account.
- Click on Privacy > Groups. The default setting is likely to be set to ‘Everyone’.
- You can select from three options — ‘Everyone’, ‘My Contacts’, and ‘My Contacts Except’.
- The ‘Everyone’ option lets any user with your phone number add you in a group without your permission.
- The ‘My Contact’ option only lets those users add you in groups whose numbers you have saved in your contact list.
- The last ‘My Contacts Except’ option lets you choose exactly who can add you to groups by letting you filter further and delist the contacts you don’t want to be added by to a group.
