Adamu insisting Lawan is party’s consensus candidate splits NWC, APC delegates demand his resignation
Vondigest reports that the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdullahi Adamu’s claim that the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, is the party’s consensus candidate has stirred the hornet’s nest.
Adamu’s comment, insiders said, has caused a hoopla and members of the party’s National Working Committee, NWC, are divided.
Contrary to the position of most northern governors on power shift to the South, Senator Adamu had announced Senate Lawan as APC consensus presidential candidate.
Adamu, Vanguard gathered, announced this at the meeting of the NWC, on Monday, in Abuja.
According to the Nation, a section of delegates of the All Progressives Congress(APC) have called on National chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu to tender his resignation.
The outraged NWC members dismissed the statement as “His personal opinion”.
Reacting, many said Adamu’s antics showed that he is working overzealously for “a small cabal including few shadowy but influential figures at the Presidency whose stock in trade is to drop the name of President Buhari, who is a worthy and highly principled leader, in pursuit of their nefarious agenda.”
