Lagos govt hands over motor parks, garages to MC Oluomo
Vondigest reports that barely 24 hours after MC Oluomo was removed as the chairman of Lagos State National Union of Road Transport Workers by the national body of the union, he was given an appointment by the Lagos State Government.
Lagos government on Thursday morning announced the appointment of Alh Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo as the Chairman of the management committee of all motor parks and garages in the state.
Oluomo, who has been having a running battle with the national leadership of NURTW over the management of the affairs of the Lagos chapter of the union, was sacked on Wednesday.
He was earlier suspended in March as chairman of the union in Lagos before he was officially kicked out on Wednesday over alleged insubordination.
Following his suspension, MC Oluomo had pulled out his gang from NURTW and told the Lagos State Government to set up a management committee to manage the affairs of motor parks in Lagos.
The government subsequently suspended the activities of NURTW in all motor parks and garages in the State.
The Lagos Government went ahead to hand over all the parks and garages in Lagos State to MC Oluomo with his appointment as the head of the State Park Management Committee on Thursday.
The development was confirmed by Gbenga Omotoso, Lagos Commissioner for Information and Strategy.
He said the appointment was in fulfillment of the government’s promise to ensure that events in the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) are not allowed to threaten law and order.
He said: “The Government has, therefore, exercised its constitutional powers to ensure that no vacuum, which can disrupt the peace of our dear State, is allowed to exist in the parks. This is a duty we owe all Lagosians and visitors.”
Omotoso noted that the government on March 10 suspended NURTW operations in all parks and garages, following the tension sparked by some events in the union.
