He also fulfilled his promise to kick off the YES Camp and threw it official open forever and declared it open to take place always, after which he asked the children, entire Yagazie Foundation team and volunteers to observe a one minute silence for late Sylvester Oromoni who would have turned 13th exactly on the date of the YES Camp (4th of December, 2021). He was a student of Dowen College Lagos.
From the observation of VON, we noted that the playing ground was partitioned into four portions, the children played soccer games, drills and rondos on the first portion, the children did several beautiful and inspirational paintings with assorted colours and art materials on the second portion, while the girls were lectured on Menstrual Hygiene and usage of CouldYou Menstrual Cups and Human Rights Education which the lectures was taken from the Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) Training books and Pamphlets on the third partition.
They played a lot of Strengthening and Cognitive board games such as: Ludo, “Ayo”, Monopoly, Snake and Ladder, Shot, Chess, Scrabble, Checkers, Strength and Counting Games.
Kellogg’s Tolaram Nigeria provided the children with sufficient Corn Flakes, Coco Pops and Dano Milk for Lunch, they had a lot of it while they were having fun during the Camp.
Additionally, Coca Cola Nigeria provided the children with enough refreshments which helped them stay hydrated while doing the tasks. In addition to the refreshments, they also supplied Cocacola T-Shirts, Caps, Cork Openers, Jotters and Bags which were used in packing all the gifts that were given to the children.
Yagazie Foundation provided the children with snacks, cakes and drinks from Coca Cola to celebrate Mr. Innocent Ijeoma, the Medical Director of the Foundation and Late Sylvester Oromoni who was gruesomely murdered in his school. The children joined in observing a one minute silence on his behalf and prayed for his eternal rest.
The Chairman of Yagazie Foundation, Mr. Kennedy Ezirim did explain to us in his interview that during his visitation to the communities where the children lives, he realized that they live in dirty, unsafe and unhealthy environment which causes Malaria, they don’t know their blood type and group, broken homes, poverty, trauma, molestation, hunger, low literacy level due to the fact they they study under dilapidated classrooms.
