Old Naira Notes Are No Longer Legal Tenders in Nigeria Since February 10th- CBN
Vondigest reports that naira notes (N200, N500, N1000) are not longer accepted as Nigeria’s legal tenders since 10th of February, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has declared.
This is according to an online report that was posted by Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday morning.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) under the leadership of Godwin Emefiele made this known through the Branch Controller of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Bauchi, Haladu Idris Andaza.
According to the report, the CBN noted that however those who are still with the old naira notes can come to their branches in the 36 states, including FCT and their money would be swapped for them after they might have filled an online form on the site. ‘Customers are free to come to the Bank and deposit which they cannot do at the Commercial Banks anymore because the currency has seized to be a legal tender since the 10th of this month. The customer has to go to the CBN portal and fill a form in the portal, there will be a form there concerning this currency redesign and exchange.
After filling the form, you generate a code, you either print it or come with it in your mobile phone, give us the code and the information contained therein.
In the form, you are expected to provide all the basic information about yourself, your account details and the amount you want to deposit’, CBN noted.
However, Haladu Idris Andaza warned those with fake notes not to come to their offices in exchange for new notes because they would be arrested and handed over to the police for further investigations and possibly prosecutions.
