JAKIN NGO provides 1000 orphans, vulnerable children with learning materials to commemorate International Literacy Day
JAKIN NGO, a non-governmental organization, provided learning materials to over 1000 orphans and vulnerable children drawn from 226 government Primary and Secondary schools residing majorly in slums and low cost areas of 12 LGAs of Lagos and Ogun states through their annual ‘Dress A Child For School Project’ to commemorate the September 8th 2022 International Literacy Day.
The UNESCO global theme For 2022 International Literacy Day is :Transforming Literacy Learning Spaces.
Speaking during the event which held at JAKIN NGO Office premises in Yaba Lagos, JAKIN NGO President, Mrs. Olubukola Adebiyi, said the impact of JAKIN NGO ‘Dress A Child For School Project’ has already attracted 10 recognition awards especially from Lagos State Office of the Governor, Ministry of Education and Mainland LGA Education Authority.
According to Adebiyi, “This is the 13th edition of the dress a child for school project and this year’s project is 100% higher than what we have spent in the last 12 years because of inflation and we appreciate our sponsors especially Gamesville Foundation, Falcon Corporation, Purple Mayland, Mariteam Ltd, Be Happy Groups. So far, 6. 500 orphans and vulnerable children have benefitted from this program since its inception in 2010.
This year, each child received: 1 set of school uniform, 1 pair of socks, 1 pair of school sandals, 1 school bag, I dozen exercise books and I set of stationaries- biro, pencil, eraser, sharpener and ruler for this academic session.”
A beneficiary of Jakin NGO project since 2009, a visually impaired young man, 20 years old Ojo Abayomi Anuoluwapo, while giving his appreciation, narrated how JAKIN NGO supported him all through his secondary school education at King’s College since 2009, spending an average of N150, 000 per term for his educational materials and also making sure he gets regular eye health care.
Goodwill messages also poured in from other students who have benefitted from the NGO since inception.
