Fire razes popular Bodija market in Ibadan
There was a fire outbreak at Bodija market located in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
Vondigest learned that the fire started on Monday morning and was on as of the time of filing this report.
The state fire service officials have been alerted.
The reason for the outbreak is still unknown.
This online platform understands that many traders who quickly got to the scene after learning about the fire watched as it destroyed shops in the market.
Monday’s incident was said to have started in one of the shops in the market.
One of the affected traders, Romoke Ganiya Jelili said she lost more than N5 million to the inferno.
Media reports indicate that between 2019 and 2021, Nigeria experienced severe fire incidents, leading to 79 deaths out of 68 fires recorded in 18 months. Thirty-one of these were market fires and the losses are still being counted.
