RCCG Pastor Leaves Ministerial Call To Become Soun Of Ogbomosho
The Lead Pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG Jesus House DC, Washington, USA, Pastor Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, has stepped down from his pastoral position and shown interest in becoming the next Soun of Ogbomosho.
Ogbomoso kingmakers on Thursday had a meeting at Aafin Ogbomoso with the aspirants in search of the next Soun.
According to an online medium, Oyo Affairs, reliable source close to Olaoye disclosed that the pastor confirmed it on Thursday.
“He confirmed it yesterday, and he has relinquished his position as the lead pastor,” the source said.
As the Soun of Ogbomoso, Olaoye will be expected to observe traditional rites of ascension to the throne of Ogbomoso and will also learn to adapt to traditional festivals of the Ifa oracle, Ogun and Egungun, practices that are against his Christian faith.
Olaoye worked as an entrepreneur before becoming a pastor in 1992. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Language and Masters in Industrial and Labour relations.
He pastored three RCCG Churches in Nigeria and one in Bonn, Germany before moving to the United States.
If he succeeds, Olaoye will be following the footpath of another former pastor with the church, Kehinde Olugbenle, who resigned from his pastoral duties to become a monarch in Ilaro, Ogun State.
Vondigest recalls that the 20th Soun of Ogbomoso, Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, was buried in December 2021.
